Nieuw Land National Park has a splendid area for sailing on the Markermeer lake. Hardly any other place in the Netherlands offers so many uncomplicated possibilities. Certainly for the expert water sports enthusiasts it is a challenging area, but when the weather is calm, smaller boats can also enjoy a lovely sail.

The Markermeer has numerous ports of call like Enkhuizen, Hoorn, Edam, Volendam, Uitdam, Muiden, Almere, and Lelystad. In between them are also a number of smaller yacht harbours.

LOCKS
DIRECT FROM ALMERE TO LELYSTAD
The only way to travel by boat in Flevoland is by going down through locks. All through waterways begin or end in a lock, with a strikingly large difference in height of 5-6 m. From Almere this is the Zuidersluis (south lock) and from Lelystad, the Noordersluis (north lock).

By following the junctions, you can determine the route yourself that allows you to discover a surprising side to our youngest province. The route 'Almere: Over land, over sea' takes you from Almere-Haven to, among others, the Lepelaarplassen, part of Nieuw Land National Park.

Do you want to pass a bridge or lock in Flevoland with your boat? Then know that there is no bridge or lock operator on site to help you. This is because the province's locks and movable bridges are operated remotely, from the provincial government building. To use the bridges, it is important to sign up in advance.
